Calculate Your BMI

Are You a Candidate for Weight Loss Surgery?

In order to be a qualified candidate for most surgical weight loss solutions, you must meet certain BMI criteria. BMI, or body mass index, is a measurement of a person’s total body fat, calculated by the relationship between height and weight. BMI is generally considered a much easier alternative to these measures and is widely accepted as an accurate way of determining a person’s total body fat.

Generally speaking, a BMI of 18.5 and below is considered underweight while a BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 is considered within the healthy range for men and women. A BMI of 25 to 29.9 is considered overweight for both men and women. A BMI of 30 and above is considered obese in both men and women. In order to qualify for most weight loss surgeries and procedures, you must have a BMI of 30 or above.
